If you're wondering how widespread measles is, the numbers keep climbing. The state Department of Health said Friday that 1,487 cases are confirmed across 45 counties in 2026, with 20 new since Nov. 4. Of those, 287 people have been hospitalized.
WFMZ reports the DOH confirmed Wednesday that an unvaccinated Jefferson County resident died, the sixth measles-associated death this year. The DOH is also looking into a reported Franklin County death in October, but as of Nov. 4 it hadn't confirmed one there.
If your kids haven't had a dose, we suggest calling your provider: children 12 months and older with none should get one now, and a second at least 28 days later. Providers gave more than 56,000 doses in September and more than 61,000 in October, versus about 25,000 in a typical month.
