If you've been tracking the measles outbreak, here's the latest: the state Department of Health confirmed Wednesday that an unvaccinated Jefferson County resident who tested positive for measles has died. It's the sixth measles-associated death in Pennsylvania this year and the second in Jefferson County. A release said the death was reported to the CDC.
- Deaths by county: Lancaster 3, Jefferson 2, Mifflin 1
- Cases among vaccinated people: 5, less than 1%
- Franklin County death in October: not yet confirmed as measles-associated
- MMR protection: 97% after two doses
Vaccination is climbing. Providers gave more than 61,000 MMR doses in October, more than double the roughly 25,000 in a typical month. The department is also recommending an early dose for infants 6 to 11 months old in counties with sustained transmission.
