COMMUNITY NEWS

  • WGAL broadcasts 25 Nights of Lights at 11 p.m. nightly through Christmas Eve at 114 North Duke St. in Hummelstown. Local firefighters Scott and Pam Deal (HFD) set up the dazzling display to light up the community with festive cheer.  WGAL
  • SusqueCycle reported over 3,321 rides this year, up from 2,993 in 2024, with 41% coming from the City Island station as noted at the HATS meeting. PennDOT has approved three new rack locations that will be installed around March + expanding service this season.  TheBurg

  • After joining as CEO in 2021, Douglas Dyer Sr. shifted focus to serve as president in February at Central Penn Business Group on Health.   • UGI will pause its natural gas line project in Harrisburg on Dec. 22 and resume on Jan. 5, 2026, affecting neighborhoods around Paxton, South 28th, Sycamore, and Bushey streets; construction runs from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, and residents may face lane restrictions (and brief gas outages).  PennLive

  • PA Local released a holiday playlist featuring 25 tracks by Pennsylvanian musicians that blend classic and modern traditions. The collection, available on Spotify and YouTube, spotlights local ties to festive tunes from religious hymns to contemporary pop covers.  Spotlight PA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Harrisburg University celebrated a year of discovery by showcasing its top 10 2025 research stories on Dec. 19, featuring breakthroughs in AI, paleontology, and cognitive science (including studies on digital culture and innovative medical models) that highlight its commitment to pushing research boundaries.  Harrisburg University of Science and Technology

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nearly 100,000 checks totaling over $22 million have been mailed statewide as part of Pennsylvania’s Money Match program (a new initiative to return unclaimed property) and State Treasurer Stacy Garrity urged recipients to cash or deposit them promptly.  Local 21 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Central Penn Business Journal today released its 2025 Power List for Health Care to honor leaders who improve local care. The list features executives such as Terese DeLaPlaine of Hamilton Health — noted for community service — and others from prominent regional organizations.  Central Penn Business Journal
  • Manal El Harrak leads Sadler Health Center as chief executive, having been appointed interim in 2019 and confirmed in 2020. She plans to navigate policy changes and growing patient demand — key challenges in providing quality primary, dental and behavioral care in Cumberland and Perry counties.  Central Penn Business Journal
  • The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled dressers from Furnulem, KKL and 17 Stories Furniture sold online because they can tip over and injure children if not anchored to the wall. Harrisburg residents who own these dressers should stop using them and follow recall instructions for safe disposal.  PennLive
  • Hamilton Health recently opened a new clinic in Steelton with an on-site pharmacy designed to help address prescription deserts, said President and CEO Terese DeLaPlaine.
