COMMUNITY NEWS

  • New directors took charge at three long-serving homelessness organizations in Harrisburg: Bethesda Mission, Downtown Daily Bread, and Christian Churches United. • Harristown Enterprises said Monday that free live music will play at UPMC Stage in downtown Harrisburg from Dec. 1 through Dec. 19 — regional groups and school bands will perform during lunch for patrons at Strawberry Square’s food court. The series will end on Dec. 19 with an evening holiday show from 6 to 9 p.m.  TheBurg
  • Bella Sicilia Bakery & Deli in Camp Hill is serving authentic Italian pastries, gelato and deli favorites made fresh in an open kitchen as owner Ornella Russo shares her heritage with local residents. CULTURE NEWS

  • The SoMa Christmas Market returns Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on South Third Street in downtown Harrisburg—hosting over two dozen local artisan vendors, food trucks, and live holiday music in a free event to support neighborhood revitalization. Event producer Sara Bozich said the market has become a local tradition for finding unique gifts.  Central Penn Business Journal
  • Linda Tedford will lead her final Candlelight Christmas concert series with the Susquehanna Chorale as the group performs at three local venues this December. She announced her retirement earlier this year (with her last concert as conductor set for August) and said the cherished 'Silent Night' candlelight moment remains a family tradition for the singers.  TheBurg

  • A Pennsylvania utility will raise rates soon, a move many customers call a real concern — officials have not yet finalized the decision, and the expected rate hike will affect bills in the coming months.  PennLive
  • For Thanksgiving travel, gas prices in Harrisburg hold steady near last year’s levels—local rates average about $3.24 per gallon compared to a national average of about $3.02, with some nearby stations offering rates under $3. Drivers should plan for heavy traffic on the Pennsylvania Turnpike today as a peak of 705,000 vehicles is expected, so leaving early is advised.  PennLive

Horse owners are urged to watch for symptoms as decisions about the upcoming event will be made in the coming weeks.  PennLive
