ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire broke out on Wednesday morning at a rented duplex on Bosler Avenue in Lemoyne where a mother and her young son had just moved in — firefighters battled the blaze after the incident was reported at 7:20 a.m., and no injuries have been reported.  PennLive

CRIME NEWS

  • UGI Utilities warned its customers today about scammers using fake online ads that charge fees for free gas leak investigations — the company urged consumers to use only the official phone number 800-276-2722 and website ugi.com to avoid falling victim to the scam.  PennLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Penn State Harrisburg students wrote letters to local and state representatives on Wednesday during Federal Accountability Day of Action to ask lawmakers to reduce rising costs of groceries and housing—student organizers said the effort spotlights the financial strain on college students. The campaign follows five years of declining consumer confidence and increasing everyday prices.  FOX43
  • State funds have not fully paid school bills because of the budget impasse, and schools have taken revenue loans to keep running—PSEA officials said canceled classes, layoffs, and unpaid teachers could occur soon—less affluent districts may be hit first.  CBS News Philadelphia

  • LIHEAP, which gives up to $1,000 to help over 300,000 families heat their homes, is delayed because of the federal shutdown. The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services said the program will not open until at least December 3—pending the release of federal funds.  Local 21 News
