COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Religious leaders in Mechanicsburg are planning a rally on October 29 at 6:30 p.m. at 26 W. Main St. to protest the KKK recruitment cards that were handed out in Halloween candy buckets after local families reported receiving them.  Local 21 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ritters Hardware, a local landmark at 25 W. Main St. in Mechanicsburg that closed on Oct. 3 after 117 years, will reopen for a final one-week sale from Monday, Oct 27 to Saturday, Nov 1. The store will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.—all items are 70% off or more.  PennLive

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Developers in central Pa have proposed projects that include a new Wawa station, a nearly 700-acre data center, poultry barns, and housing projects in counties like Perry, Adams, Cumberland and Dauphin—most plans are in early stages and may take years before construction begins.  PennLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Middle Paxton Elementary School students won the national Prodigy State Challenge and celebrated their victory. The win gave them recognition among schools and highlighted their strong math skills.  FOX43
  • HACCEA faculty will hold an 'Enough is Enough' rally on Tuesday, October 28 at 5 p.m. outside the Farm Show building to demand a serious contract proposal ahead of their final meeting with HACC administration at 6 p.m.—if no improvements are offered, a strike is possible after three years without raises.  ABC27

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Peraton filed a WARN notice stating that 153 workers at its facility near Camp Hill might be laid off if its fraud detection contract for Medicare and Medicaid claims is not renewed by November 1 + the company noted that layoffs could begin on or around December 13 and officials were not immediately available for comment.  PennLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Friday, WellSpan Health announced it will donate $275,000 to Central PA food banks to provide one million meals as rising food insecurity and reduced SNAP funding put more families at risk + the donation builds on a previous $1.5 million investment aimed at expanding community support services.  FOX43
