ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Millersville University stated that senior biology major Sydney Barnes from Greencastle — remembered as a dedicated teammate who recorded the program's first hole-in-one — was fatally struck by a vehicle in Franklin County on October 13.  Local 21 News

  • Oxford Hall Celtic Shop in New Cumberland will celebrate 40 years in November as owner Cindy Washburn honors Irish heritage — the shop has grown from a small 600 square foot store to a 2,700 square foot hub that features a cozy café and a wide range of Irish imports for visitors from nearby areas.  Central Penn Business Journal
  • Today, D&H Distributing held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Lower Paxton Township to unveil its new 5-acre solar park—developed with Coral Reef Partners—and set at its headquarters as part of its clean energy plan. The park supports the company's goal for sustainable operations in the midstate.  ABC27

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The state Senate Education Committee met Tuesday to discuss a bill that would ban cell phones in K-12 classrooms — letting school districts set their own rules. The measure, backed by the Pennsylvania State Education Association and already used by over 425 schools — is aimed at reducing student anxiety and improving learning.  WITF

  • A West Hanover Township park received its first AED as part of a special project (the device will help save lives during emergencies).  FOX43

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials and partners celebrated a bell-ringing ceremony on Monday at the new cancer center at Hampden Medical Center; the 40,250-square-foot facility—merging three service locations—will open to West Shore patients on Oct. 27 with unified cancer care.  Central Penn Business Journal
  • Local mom and kindergarten teacher Lindsey Diamond said her breast cancer was found in 2021 during a routine OB exam and she underwent hormone therapy at Penn State Health without chemo or radiation. Support from her family and a signed stick from a Hershey Bears coach helped her stay strong and reminded her that cancer does not define her.  FOX43
