ECONOMY NEWS

  • Pennsylvania released a 10-year roadmap on Sept. 18 that will boost AI, data center, and energy work by creating up to five innovation corridors across the state—upgrading the power grid and adding 12 gigawatts of capacity. The plan brings together business, labor, and government to create jobs and strengthen energy supplies.  Central Penn Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • College students in the commonwealth are still waiting for their financial aid because the state budget remains unsigned—once the governor approves it, schools will not receive funds for at least four weeks. Past delays from data glitches and a software rollout have already added to the challenges faced by these students.  PennLive
  • After a deadly shooting that killed one person and injured another in Steelton and led to an hours-long lockdown, the Steelton-Highspire School District held online classes yesterday—students will resume in-person classes today.  Local 21 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Wanda Williams announced an $8M investment to support 13 affordable housing projects chosen from 26 applications in the city. The program requires all projects to be finished within three years—resulting in 220 new housing units for people in need.  WGAL
  • The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services launched a lock feature via the Connect Mobile EBT app—introduced after reports of EBT card skimming drained funds—to help protect benefits and urges recipients to change their PIN each month.  WGAL
  • Attorney General Dave Sunday said that customers who bought gift cards from Iron Hill Brewery— which closed locations last month and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy—should dispute purchases with their credit card companies and may file complaints with his Bureau of Consumer Protection. His office is monitoring consumer concerns about unused gift cards and loyalty rewards balances.  FOX43

HEALTH NEWS

  • Penn State Health will open a 40,250-square-foot cancer center in Hampden Township on Oct 27—consolidating West Shore cancer care from Camp Hill sites and offering upgraded radiation technology and expanded clinical trials. The new facility will integrate care for 100 staff members moving from previous locations.  Central Penn Business Journal
  • The federal nutrition program WIC is projected to run out of funds in the next week if lawmakers fail to reach a funding deal — nearly 200K low-income families risk losing vital food assistance. Advocates warn that children and families may face hunger if the shutdown continues.  PennLive
