BUSINESS NEWS

  • GSK expanded its Marietta facility with an $800 million project that doubled its capacity and will add at least 200 skilled jobs as part of a $30 billion investment in U.S. manufacturing over the next five years. Local officials say the project builds on previous investments and will strengthen Pennsylvania’s life sciences sector—boosting local job growth and economic opportunity.  Central Penn Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Brad Winnick, a Dauphin County public defender who pleaded guilty to a felony conflict of interest, appeared at his arraignment on October 3rd, 2019 and testified to a state disciplinary board committee as he asked for his law license to be reinstated so he can prosecute criminals—saying he used taxpayer money to help a campaign.  PennLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pennsylvania’s state government has been locked in a budget stalemate for four months—schools, counties and social services have missed billions in funding, leading to layoffs and service cutbacks. Officials warn that without a new spending plan, deeper cuts and more job losses will worsen as October unfolds.  ABC27
  • Reconstruction of the historic brick building at Broad Street Market began Monday—two years after a fire on July 10, 2023—and is underway between Third and Sixth streets. The project is expected to finish in May 2027 while a temporary tent from May 2024 continues to shelter displaced vendors.  Local 21 News
