CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Three police officers killed in an ambush on Sept. 17 will be honored today with a funeral at 12 p.m. at Living Word Community Church on Cape Horn Road in Red Lion—family and select guests will attend while a procession starting at 10 a.m. is livestreamed. Local 21 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Susquehanna Township School District said a false Facebook post—made by Nathan Rushman who is not a district parent—wrongly claimed its football team was suspended because of transportation delays. The district advised anyone with questions about student attendance to contact them since no suspensions took place. ABC27
- ➤ Today, the Shapiro Administration congratulated 13 schools including several local ones on being selected as Pennsylvania Blue Ribbon Schools for 2025—its own state initiative after the federal program ended—and an award ceremony will be held in Hershey this December. ABC27
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Pennsylvania voters will vote yes or no in November on whether to keep Supreme Court Justices—Christine Donohue, David Wecht, and Kevin Dougherty. Some groups support the judges while others warn that a vote no may lead to partisan elections in 2027. ABC27
- ➤ Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced that the state treasury would loan $500M from its short-term cash investment pool to county governments and Head Start programs that have not received their usual funding due to the budget impasse — the loans will carry 4.5% interest and require repayment 15 days after a new state budget is signed by Gov. - ➤ On September 12, 2025, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture conducted risk-based inspections in Dauphin County and found food safety issues at Grill and Gyro at Fresh Market Hershey—raw meats were improperly stored and cleaning was lacking—while several other sites passed all checks. WITF
