- ➤ Messiah University's Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry mourned senior Brendan Heisey, 22, who was struck by a train near the south gate on Friday—officials confirmed he was pronounced dead on scene. Local 21 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Steelton-Highspire School District Superintendent Mick Iskric resigned—his last day is September 30—after his absence from start-of-year events highlighted tensions in the district. The board has named assistant superintendent Willie Slade as interim leader while it searches for a permanent replacement. ABC27
- ➤ Commonwealth Charter Academy, Pennsylvania’s largest K–12 public cyber charter school serving over 35,000 students, won a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award for innovative educational video content—its in-house team produced engaging lessons—and the award was given by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences at a ceremony in Philadelphia. - ➤ Last week, the Steelton-Highspire school board accepted Dr. Michael Iskric Jr.'s resignation, with his last day set for Sept. 30, and named Willie Slade as interim superintendent to keep schools stable. The board also approved a 4% salary increase for Slade and rescinded the raise for the assistant superintendent role and the business manager while focusing on the district's financial recovery.
