CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrested four young men in Cumberland County after a Wawa employee rejected an attempt to buy a gift card with counterfeit money on Aug. 24—officers later caught them in a vehicle containing large sums of cash and gift cards and charged them with criminal conspiracy and forgery.  WGAL
  • Four Philadelphia men were charged with forgery and criminal conspiracy after they tried to use counterfeit cash to buy gift cards at a Cumberland County Wawa in Enola on August 24—an employee spotted the fake bills and officers later found the suspects after one vehicle fled.  FOX43

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A national political group spent at least $85K on digital ads urging voters to vote “No in November” to block new terms for three PA Supreme Court justices, and the ads were run through Meta and Google as of Sept 8 — the retention elections could alter the court’s makeup if the justices lose their seats.  PennLive
  • On Monday evening, Pa. Supreme Court Justices Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty, and David Wecht shared their views during an hour-long fireside chat as they prepared for retention in November—voters saw a personal glimpse of how they plan to keep the court nonpartisan. The forum addressed their goals for the next tenure and discussed the role of the court.  PennLive
  • Capital Region Water said that Market Street—between Evergreen and 13th in Allison Hill—will be closed for several weeks for necessary sewer repairs. Construction will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a detour set up, and additional closures may occur as work continues.  TheBurg
