- ➤ Mechanicsburg fire chief Gary Neff retired on Saturday after a 50-year career that saw him rescue civilians from blazing fires—he saved a baby and an unconscious man amid thick smoke and severe burns. Officials held a ceremony to break ground on a new fire station built to improve volunteer facilities—Neff now looks forward to spending time with his wife and visiting the station before it opens.
