- ➤ Two local men collected, cleaned and restored about 100 pairs of sneakers that were given to area kids on Saturday on South Front Street in Steelton ahead of the new school year. Saleem Mayfield said the event helps parents face high shoe prices—he planned it after a month of preparation. ABC27

- ➤ The Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association is holding its 67th annual show in Cumberland County through Sunday, August 31 to display tractors, antique steam equipment, and other items. The event will offer tractor games, train rides, auctions, and parades — activities that let visitors enjoy and learn about local history. ABC27
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding announced on August 23 that two Lancaster farms are part of an $8.8M project to preserve 33 farms in 16 counties as local governments and the Pennsylvania Farmland Preservation Program bought development rights to keep over 130 acres for farming—this effort will help protect our local farmland for future use.
