Good morning, Harrisburg. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 15th of August.

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association warns that high E. coli levels and pollution in the Susquehanna River may affect boating and fishing—volunteers are taking water samples from popular spots to alert the public; an EPA study showed that over 12,000 pounds of toxic metal flowed into the river each day.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dauphin County Sheriff’s Office launched a free informational app last week that lets residents submit anonymous tips, check Megan’s Law and most wanted lists, look up inmates, and view concealed carry license rules—this effort was funded with surcharges from legal service fees and developed with local agencies. The app provides a direct way for people to interact with the sheriff’s office and stay informed about its services.  PennLive
  • Pennsylvania legislators including Lancaster County’s Senator Scott Martin set August 17–23 as Social Media Safety and Parental Awareness Week to help protect children from online threats like sextortion — the first such event in the state. The resolution will prompt schools, parents, and organizations to work together so kids learn how to stay safe online.  WGAL
