Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 10th of August.
Good morning, Harrisburg.
🏘️ Community
Families gathered Saturday at the State Capitol for Outdoors for All Day, an annual celebration by over 15 groups that featured kayaking, face-painting, food and a meet-and-greet with Smokey the Bear.
Officials said Pennsylvania offers many state parks and forests for outdoor enjoyment (encouraging local recreation).
🏛️ Government
Legislators in Harrisburg left state leaders without a clear deal on skill games, leaving local clubs at risk of losing revenue as the October deadline nears.
Vendors and lawmakers are set to revisit options that might allow clubs to continue earning while debating new tax plans.
🏥 Health
Capital Blue Cross expanded its behavioral health network between 2025 and 2026 by adding over 439 clinicians, which led to a 9% decline in emergency visits as members accessed timely outpatient and virtual care (internal data) that helped reduce employer costs.
County officials will spray mosquitoes from dusk until 11 p.m. today in parts of Camp Hill, Shiremanstown boroughs, East Pennsboro and Hampden townships to reduce West Nile virus risks.
Additional spraying is planned next week (residents are encouraged to remove standing water to limit breeding).
🏈 Sports
Southern York County’s little league baseball team (ages 8-10) won the state championship on Aug.9 and now heads to Rhode Island for a regional tournament.
They will face New York on Tuesday, Aug.11 and New Jersey on Wednesday, Aug.12 as local supporters cheer them on.
