COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A free farmers market held on Wednesday at Hamilton Health Center in Steelton provided over 8,000 pounds of fresh food to residents in need, organized by the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank & two other groups. Program manager Michael Callaghan said the event eased food cost worries with no questions asked.  WGAL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Catherine Hershey Schools for Early Learning opened its third center in Middletown Tuesday to provide free early childhood education for 150 local children from underserved backgrounds. The 48,692-square-foot facility with 12 classrooms is part of a $350 million expansion plan that will add three more centers in the coming years — increasing access to quality education for local families.  TheBurg

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will host a virtual public meeting to discuss plans for restarting the facility at Three Mile Island—now known as the Crane Clean Energy Center.  FOX43
  • A PennDOT crew in Dauphin County begins work today on a structure along Powells Valley Road that has been closed since May to remove the old span, install a new concrete pipe and end walls, restore the stream and resurface the roadway—motorists must use a detour via Route 225, Rutter Road and Enders Road—while the project is expected to take five to six weeks.  PennLive

  • Derek King is the new head coach for the Hershey Bears — he played in the NHL and coached with the Chicago Blackhawks. The team’s season starts on Oct. 11.  Local 21 News
