BUSINESS NEWS

  • BJ's Wholesale Club opened Friday, Aug 1 at 8 a.m. at its new Beltway Towne Centre location in Mechanicsburg (5415 Carlisle Pike) after the Camp Hill store closed Thursday night. The club includes a gas station and operates Monday-Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Local 21 News
  • Walmart reopened its Camp Hill store Friday at 3400 Hartzdale Drive with a new layout, updated technology and enhanced lighting. The refurbishment is part of a plan to upgrade 650 stores nationwide and included improvements like easier navigation, new registers, digital signage and expanded online pickup and delivery services — local staff celebrated with a ribbon-cutting and received $6,500 in grants for local nonprofits.  PennLive

CRIME NEWS

  • In Highspire, a 23-year-old man is accused of assaulting a woman and injuring her 6-month-old dog (which was taken to Shores Veterinary Care Center and later euthanized) as officers responded to a domestic call on Ann Street, and police charged him with simple assault and cruelty to animals.  WGAL
  • Authorities investigated after a body was recovered from the Susquehanna River in Dauphin County on Friday morning — the Pennsylvania State Police were called by the Londonderry Fire Company.  WGAL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hollidaysburg native Ellie Sheehan will become the first female drum major in Penn State Blue Band history this fall—she is a 5th-year student who played in the piccolo section.  Local 21 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Pennsylvania Department of Health announced that free potassium iodide tablets will be available on August 14 for residents who live, work, or study near four active nuclear power plants including the one at Peach Bottom. Residents near the Peach Bottom site will be able to pick up tablets from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at local locations (Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station and Peach Bottom Recreation Center) where printed instructions on proper use will be provided.  FOX43
  • Officials working to restart the Three Mile Island reactor at the Crane Clean Energy Center met with local residents on July 31 in Middletown to review federal safety and environmental standards amid concerns about evacuation plans and long-term waste management. Constellation Energy awaits final approvals for the project, which is expected to create jobs and boost tax revenue (estimated at $3.6 billion), though many remain skeptical about its safety measures.  WITF
