COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Officer Mark Sanguinito answered a complaint about a child's lemonade stand and took a selfie with the young owner while serving a cup of lemonade. The social media post earned over 8,000 reactions (with many praising his quick community outreach) and showed local residents applauding his support.  Local 21 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Veolia Water Pennsylvania responded to a water main break along Derry Street between 47th and 48th in Swatara Township on Monday morning—officials said crews worked at the scene while drivers were advised to be cautious and no boil water advisory was issued.  ABC27
  • On July 28, the state game commissioners met to consider a proposal that would allow Sunday hunting for most species from Sept. 14 through Dec. 7, excluding waterfowl + migratory birds. Gov. Shapiro repealed the long-standing ban on Sunday hunting on July 9, which let the agency move quickly by using an executive order.  WITF

  • A mother tells how her son, who suffered from serious mental illness, did not get the help he needed when Pennsylvania's shift from state hospitals to community care fell short. His story shows deep system problems that demand urgent fixes+ to better support struggling families.  PennLive
  • FSIS has issued a health alert for ham salad sold in Pennsylvania. The warning covers 12-oz tubs of RESER’S FINE FOODS (sell-by 09/01) and 5-lb tubs of MOLLY’S KITCHEN (sell-by 08/31) that may carry a recalled breadcrumb product linked to Listeria monocytogenes, and consumers and retailers should dispose of them.  ABC27
  • Natera, a genetic testing company, has opened a new patient service center at 850 Walnut Bottom Road in Carlisle — it offers tests for cancer, reproductive health, and organ health. The center opened a few weeks ago and draws blood from patients to send samples to its lab.  PennLive
