COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Earlier this week, the Steel-High Rollers football team spent time coaching at the Steel-High United Youth Soccer Camp at Highspire Memorial Park (in Dauphin County) to give back to local youth. They organized drills (and played games) with the children to build positive sports skills before fall season begins.  FOX43

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A day after a 9-year-old child died at The Boardwalk at Hersheypark, park officials closed the wave pool when lifeguards performed an immediate rescue and the park began an internal review—police are assisting the investigation.  Local 21 News

CRIME NEWS

  • A 14-year-old boy was shot Thursday afternoon near 5th and Woodbine Street and was taken to a local hospital in critical but stable condition; police have not made any arrests and are tracking leads.  PennLive
  • Jonathan Bergmueller, a 2020 Shippensburg University graduate who led The Slate as editor-in-chief, joined the team from the Williamsport Sun-Gazette in spring 2022 and covered courts and crime. Local updates include a Dauphin County judge condemning a central Pa. couple for lying about a fatal collision — a wrongful termination suit against the mayor and several cases involving alleged excessive force, fraud, and homicide that have marked the region.  PennLive
  • Lower Swatara Township Police are investigating a case where a man entered a Greenwood Hills home posing as a pest control employee and fled when confronted by the homeowner, and officers are searching for a Burgundy/Maroon GMC SUV with South Dakota plates while noting a similar report in Derry Township.  FOX43

CULTURE NEWS

  • On July 25th, a press release announced minor changes to the 2025 Pride Festival parade route to ensure smooth operation. Participants will check in at City Island at 9 a.m. and the parade starts at 11 a.m.—it now moves from City Island over Market Street Bridge, then along Second, North and Front Streets before returning to City Island.  PennLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Enola's Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center earned the ENA Lantern Award for excellence in emergency care and nursing innovation. The award—recognizing improvements in shared governance and nurse staffing—will be formally presented at the ENA national conference Sept. 17-20 in New Orleans.  Central Penn Business Journal
