CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Mt. Airy Orchards in Dillsburg unveiled this year's corn maze design—featuring Sesame Street's Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Elmo—that will be open each weekend in September and October. The orchard credited Dan Paulus with most of the work on the design. Local 21 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rep. Manuel Guzman, D-Berks, said he will introduce a bill that will require all motorcyclists to wear helmets—riders of fully enclosed three-wheeled motorcycles or autocycles will be exempt. The measure seeks to improve rider safety and aligns with helmet laws already in place in 19 states. WGAL
- ➤ Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania, PC will pay $790,000 to settle allegations that it submitted Medicare claims for bilateral eye injections on the same day of service in violation of Medicare rules. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania said the claims were made between Sept 1, 2018 and April 7 — a step aimed at curbing unsupported billing practices that drive up taxpayer costs. - ➤ People calling 911 in Pennsylvania had intermittent outages on July 12 because of an operating system issue (not a cyberattack), according to a preliminary report. Emergency officials activated the Emergency Alert System and are working on plans to improve the system. CBS News Philadelphia
- ➤ A York County bridge on Harmony Grove Road closed on July 21 for preservation work and will stay closed for 117 days—drivers should use a detour via Carlisle Road/Route 74 and Wellsville Road. The work is part of a two-bridge contract that will also replace another Conewago Creek bridge, with improvements on Route 74 set to begin in Spring and finish by November. WGAL
