BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Cleveland-Cliffs steel plant in Steelton closed on June 30th after more than 160 years of service, and most workers ended regular shifts on June 27th. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Widener University's Commonwealth Law School and the University of Scranton signed a 3+3 dual admissions agreement that lets eligible Scranton students earn both a bachelor’s and a law degree in six years. The program requires a minimum 3.0 GPA and a total of at least 90 credits—details that mirror similar agreements with Alvernia, Wilkes, and Lycoming.  PennLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers had until Monday, June 30 to pass Gov. Josh Shapiro's $51.5 billion spending plan, but there was little optimism for timely approval. Without the budget, the state lost some ability to pay vendors, counties, and public schools — though it still covered essential services like Medicaid and state police patrols.  WGAL
