  • Easterseals of Western and Central Pennsylvania has asked community volunteers to help revive recreational programs for people with disabilities in York—current activities include bowling while the group plans to restore more offerings. Teachers and school staff are especially encouraged to apply, and all applicants must pass a detailed background check.  FOX43

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A tractor-trailer, truck and construction vehicle crashed around 4:15 a.m. Friday in Lower Swatara Township on the Pennsylvania Turnpike—causing a truck to catch fire and the tractor-trailer to burn; one lane has reopened while police investigate and delays continue.  WGAL

CRIME NEWS

  • State Police identified human remains found along Route 322 in Perry County in 1979 as belonging to Dorris Joanne Girtz from Ravenna, Ohio after a forensic genetic genealogy study involving a local dentist and family DNA interviews—an investigation into her death is ongoing.  ABC27

  • A museum in Cumberland County now houses amusement park elements from Hersheypark, Dutch Wonderland, Knoebels, Dorney Park (and Kennywood) to highlight the nation's amusement park history.  FOX43

HEALTH NEWS

  • On June 20, the Pennsylvania Capitol Building and the Walnut Street Bridge were lit in purple lights from dusk till dawn to honor Alzheimer’s and brain awareness month—an event organized by the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Pennsylvania Chapter that paid tribute to over 7 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s and their 21 million caregivers.  ABC27
