  • TFEC is sponsoring five nonprofit leaders from South Central in executive leadership programs at The High Center for Nonprofits + the initiative provides peer groups and collaborative learning to boost local nonprofit leadership amid budget cuts.  Central Penn Business Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Slice, an elevated sports bar led by Sachiko Tashiana and Jameson Christopher, will open in mid-to-late June at the 500 Condo at 1500 N. Sixth St. The renovated venue — formerly Crawdaddy’s — will offer televisions, darts and local sports memorabilia to boost the dining scene for residents and visitors.  PennLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Pride of the Susquehanna returns to the river this summer after two seasons off for repairs; the nonprofit schedules sightseeing trips + themed voyages, including Memorial Day cruises for veterans on May 24. Riders can book their spots now.  PennLive
  • Tattoo Punks: the Fest will begin today at Capital City Music Hall in Harrisburg, featuring live music, tattooing by over 30 artists, vendor booths, and a documentary screening on May 17, with doors opening at 7 p.m. on May 15.  PennLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Downtown Harrisburg is set to revitalize its core using $400,000 for planning inspired by Pittsburgh’s recent upgrades (which included curb fixes and outdoor dining improvements). City leaders are hosting focus groups and forging partnerships to deliver similar projects soon.  Local 21 News
  • Grantham Road bridge over Yellow Breeches Creek in York and Cumberland counties will close for six months starting on Tuesday, May 26 to allow construction of a new $2.24 million bridge while detours are set up for northbound and southbound traffic.  PennLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • UPMC Children's Specialty Services in central Pa cares for children with epilepsy by diagnosing seizures and guiding families at its Harrisburg and New Oxford centers. Dr. Sateesh explained that treatments range from anti-seizure medications to alternative options to help kids live their best lives.  Central Penn Business Journal
  • Operating room staff at Penn State Health raised concerns over risky sterilization practices at Hershey Medical Center that led to surgeries using visibly unclean instruments (prompting internal reviews and equipment upgrades).
