CRIME NEWS

  • On May 6, 2025, Dakota Saunders, 21, shot a victim multiple times in the parking lot of Triple B Restaurant & Bar in Swatara Township after the man pulled out an unloaded gun upon hearing talk of being shot—police said Saunders fled in a red Jeep before later turning himself in and facing charges.  PennLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildfires in Michaux State Forest are now fully contained nearly two weeks after they broke out on April 23 and April 24. The Thompson Hollow Fire burned 2,248 acres and the Hammonds Rocks Fire burned 470 acres—no injuries or property damage were reported, and some roads remain closed as officials advise caution.  Local 21 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After an intruder broke into Governor Shapiro’s home and started a fire on April 13, state police chief Col. Christopher Paris said an anti-climb fence—part of new security measures—will be installed around the residence along the Susquehanna River.  ABC27
  • The Pennsylvania House passed the Cannabis Health and Safety Act on its second reading by a 102—101 party-line vote, moving the measure to the Senate for further debate. Governor Shapiro stated on social media that legalizing adult-use cannabis could bring significant revenue—an approach that aligns with actions in neighboring states.  FOX43
  • Driver’s license centers have seen a surge of visitors as officials announced that starting Wednesday, May 14, travelers must present either REAL ID or a passport to board domestic flights, visit federal buildings or nuclear power plants—residents are urged to secure proper identification before the rule takes effect.  FOX43
