ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Department of Conservation of Natural Resources said in Cumberland County that the Hammonds Rocks Fire—burned 470 acres near Ridge and Cold Springs roads—is fully contained while the Thompson Hollow Fire, which started on April 23 near Shippensburg and Baltimore roads in Southampton Township and burned 2,248 acres, is 80% contained. More than 170 firefighters battled the blazes that scorched over 2,700 acres as roads on Thompson Hollow Road and Three Turn Road remain closed. WGAL
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Wednesday, the city declared a public safety hazard on the 6th Street Corridor from Maclay to Reily due to drivers exceeding the 25 mph speed limit in a busy pedestrian area. The city installed stop signs with flashing red lights at 6th and Hamilton—measures designed to curb speeding—and will heavily patrol the corridor to ticket any speeders. FOX43
- ➤ After a man broke into the Governor’s Residence and started fires during Passover, former governors and first ladies will host a private fundraiser on Monday to raise about $500,000 for repairs that insurance does not cover. Each leader will donate their own funds to restore the historic home built in 1968—helping ensure it remains ready for future first families. PennLive
