Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 19th of April.
Good morning, Harrisburg.
Dauphin County police arrested Skylar Vandevander (26) on Thursday on 40 charges including rape and sexual extortion after he met victims online and used secret recordings to force sexual favors.
Arson suspect Cody Balmer called 911 at 2:50 a.m. on Sunday to admit he set fire to the Governor’s Residence and later walked over two miles to state police headquarters to turn himself in after initial encounters with Penbrook officers did not lead to a prompt arrest—he is now held without bail at Camp Hill pending a preliminary hearing.
After arson damaged the Governor’s Mansion on April 13th — a historic home along the Susquehanna — five former governors and six former first ladies signed a letter urging full restoration and condemning the political violence linked to the attack.
They joined Governor Shapiro’s team to repair the damage so the mansion will soon reopen for tours and public events — a valued community asset — while work gets underway.
