COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Wednesday night the Jewish community held a vigil against hate after an arson attack at Governor Shapiro's residence, with people from different faiths walking from Temple Beth El to the governor's home—supported by a security detail—to call for unity.  Local 21 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Reese Chocolate Processing plant, Hershey's first fully integrated digital manufacturing facility, opened Wednesday and is part of a $1 billion expansion that is creating over 125 jobs at a 250,000-square-foot site on 55 acres. Governor Josh Shapiro joined company leaders in a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and the plant will produce chocolate for brands like Reese's & KitKat.  Central Penn Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Tanis Monroy, the former manager of Broad Street Market, pleaded guilty to a felony theft charge after using checks and credit cards to pay for personal expenses including Uber rides, HVAC service calls, fitness apps, his wife's vehicle registration and a dog spa, and the court sentenced him to one year on probation and ordered him to repay $21,939 plus a $50 fine.  PennLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting with registrations expiring May 1st, owners of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in Pennsylvania must pay an annual fee to fund road maintenance since drivers of gas-powered cars contribute a gas tax. The fee is $200 for full electric vehicles and $50 for plug-in hybrids in 2025 and will rise to $250 and $63 respectively in 2026 — motorists can opt for monthly installments beginning July 2026.  PennLive
  • Electric vehicle and hybrid owners in Pennsylvania began paying a new road user charge fee when renewing registrations on April 1, and Act 85 (signed last year) sets the fee at $200 for EVs and $50 for hybrids to fund road and bridge maintenance.  ABC27
