COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Members of the Jewish community gathered at Beth El Temple Monday evening for a 24-hour Reading of the Names ceremony to honor those killed in the Holocaust. The Jewish Federation of Greater Harrisburg organized the event (a solemn tribute) to remember lives lost.  FOX43
  • Steelton residents and leaders are launching the 'Stop That' initiative to curb youth gun violence after a Sunday shots-fired incident with no injuries. The group will knock on doors and chat with neighbors, with Mayor Dent and gun violence intervention leader Tiff Lo among those involved.  WGAL
  • Three community members were sworn in as CASA volunteers (Court Appointed Special Advocates) at the Dauphin County Courthouse to help foster youth. They join 63 volunteers who work for over 320 children (currently in foster care) during Child Abuse Prevention Month.  WGAL
  • Healthy Steps Diaper Bank has moved into a new home in Harrisburg and now distributes diapers and period products to families in south central Pennsylvania (the relocation is expected to boost service capacity).  FOX43

  • M&T Bank launches its fifth Small Business Accelerator Program for 40 local entrepreneurs. The free eight-week course starts April 29 at the Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, with registration open until April 19 and concludes on June 17 with a pitch competition and grant awards.  Central Penn Business Journal
  • Warfel Construction received a National Health and Safety Excellence Merit Award from ABC at the Excellence in Construction Awards in Salt Lake City. The East Petersburg firm earned Platinum status for 2025 and was recognized for exceptional safety performance, including a low EMR (0.586).  Central Penn Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • State leaders gathered in Harrisburg today to honor Holocaust victims (an annual commemoration) and urged remembrance ahead of Yom HaShoah, aiming to inspire reflection on lessons for a more inclusive future.  FOX43

  • HU professor Teray Johnson co-authored a new paper defining key AI terms to help healthcare teams use emerging technology responsibly; the study was published on Monday, April 13 in the Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives (with Dr. Melvin Blanchard).  Harrisburg University of Science and Technology
