  • McGrath’s Pub had a busy St. Patrick’s Day downtown and its owner began expanding into a vacant building (the former Arooga’s on Second Street) to add a bigger kitchen, more seating and live music events planned for summer.  FOX43
  • Butcher’s Farm Market in Newport is set to close on April 25 as owners Mark and Stacey Butcher retire, and a public auction of the market’s real estate and equipment is scheduled for April 23 (customers should redeem gift certificates before closing).  FOX43

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in the region increased today amid ongoing Middle East tensions — local rates in Harrisburg average $3.72 a gallon, below the state’s $3.80, while the national rate hit $3.84 according to AAA. Analysts noted that seasonal demand and the shift to summer blend gasoline could keep prices high.  PennLive
  • Energy analyst Francesca Hsie explained on March 18 that Pennsylvania's high electricity bills stem from a limited mix of resources and slow adoption of solar and wind power. Experts warn that without swift deployment of new generation methods, residents should expect costs to rise.  CBS News Philadelphia

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Capital Region Water will host an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 20 at its Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility at 1051 Elliot Street to mark the near completion of its $27M energy recovery project.   • City officials announced new updates at Broad Street Market on Wednesday, including soil stabilization + interior footer work and the drilling of helical piles to support the historic space, and they will share a full project timeline next month.  Local 21 News

  • Police and mental health teams in the Susquehanna Valley report that crisis calls have surged over 1,000% since 2020; in Dauphin County, co-responder teams have answered over 17,000 calls + over 800 calls at Lower Paxton, and officials say more funding may boost the programs.  WGAL
