ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 4.5-foot sinkhole closed a busy I-83 ramp at 13th Street Thursday in downtown Harrisburg; PennDOT fixed the ramp by Friday afternoon with no injuries reported.  PennLive

  • Joseph Culos has joined Members 1st Credit Union as Senior Vice President of Retail to lead its retail and branch operations as it expands into new markets. (He brings over a decade of experience from First Commonwealth Bank and TD Bank.)  Central Penn Business Journal
  • Meiji America Inc. announced a $65 million investment at its York facility — set to expand production of Meiji Hello Panda cookies and upgrade equipment — which is expected to create jobs and boost manufacturing by 50%. Renovations begin this year, with packaging in 2027 and full production in 2028.  Central Penn Business Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Harrisburg rose to an average of $3.67 per gallon Friday, up 21 cents from last week, with the lowest reported at $3.29 (Sheetz and Wawa). Rising crude oil costs and stronger demand have pushed pump prices higher.  PennLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Harrisburg University of Science & Technology welcomed its inaugural Doctor of Physical Therapy cohort of 53 students on March 13, with a hybrid program that admitted PTAs, fitness professionals, and recent graduates and will move forward with accreditation steps (site visit in summer, graduation in December, and licensure exams in January).  Harrisburg University of Science and Technology

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • 33 years ago, on March 12 to 14, 1993, the valley faced the Superstorm, which dropped 20.4 inches of snow at Harrisburg International Airport and up to 2 to 3 feet in many neighborhoods + caused major travel disruptions.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Turnpike officials announced Friday afternoon that the supersized snowplow was named Plow Force One after voters picked it over four finalists in a social media contest; the 550-hp truck with dual plows & clears two lanes in one pass along its 360-mile route.  FOX43
  • An $8.8 million pavement preservation project will begin Monday, March 23 in East Pennsboro Township on Route 11/15 and I-81 with trenching for a highway lighting system — shoulder closures are planned from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays, and work will finish by June 15, 2027.  PennLive

  • Penn State Health named Kasia Konieczny as Chief of Staff to CEO Michael Kupferman, drawing on 20 years of leadership experience to guide systemwide initiatives and bridge clinical, academic and community partnerships. She formerly led large-scale projects at Providence St. Joseph Health.  Central Penn Business Journal
  • Lidl US is recalling Favorina Chocolate Ladybugs German-Style Nougat candies sold from Jan. 28 through March 11 because they contain undeclared hazelnuts (posing a risk for those with nut allergies) in local stores and other states. Customers can return the candy to any Lidl outlet for a refund.  PennLive

  • The Hershey Bears scored three goals in a quick 5-minute burst on Friday, March 13 to achieve a 4-2 comeback win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza. Goalie Mitch Gibson helped the team withstand a late-third period push.  FOX43
  • Former NBA champion Norris Cole became head coach of Trinity High School girls basketball in Camp Hill after the school needed a new coach when its first pick withdrew due to illness — he said his new role lets him share championship lessons with local players.  Local 21 News
