COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Harrisburg firefighters remembered Lt. Dennis DeVoe nine years ago when an impaired driver struck his vehicle near Walnut Street and 14th Street; he served for 21 years and had his badge retired in 2017 to honor his legacy.  Local 21 News
  • The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission held a 'No Hate in Our State' town hall from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Todd Hall on North Pitt Street in Carlisle in response to hate flyers found on local homes and vehicles, with community panelists addressing concerns.  Local 21 News
  • Residents gathered in Carlisle at the Cumberland County Historical Society for a town hall meeting (organized by the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission) to discuss the white supremacist flyers distributed in the community; local organizations and law enforcement advised staying informed and connected following a community vigil and march.  WGAL

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Halifax woman said she is struggling after a house fire on Longview Drive destroyed her family home and sent her son and three other family members to local hospitals with injuries from severe burns and smoke inhalation—firefighters responded as investigators work to determine the cause.  Local 21 News
  • A house fire displaced eight people after breaking out in the 200 block of Cumberland Street (just after 5 a.m. on Wednesday).  FOX43

CULTURE NEWS

  • Muralist Katie Trainer paints public art across the Susquehanna Valley, collaborating with over 7,800 students to inspire neighborhoods. She gathered designs from 500 students for a mural in Camp Hill Borough and her work can be seen at local sites (including PA Department of Labor and Snitz Creek Brewery).  WGAL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Rising gas prices are squeezing DoorDash driver Brandon Zannino, who said he now limits orders to stay near restaurant clusters in downtown Harrisburg and Lower Paxton Township (orders often barely cover his gas costs) as he aims for weekly earnings of $200 to $300.  WGAL
  • At Wednesday’s Dauphin County meeting, Harrisburg International Airport officials reported a record 2025 with 814,718 passengers—a 12% jump from the previous year—and announced plans to boost airline services & cargo operations in 2026. County commissioners said the travel hub’s growth benefits the region.  TheBurg

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Harrisburg school officials are moving ahead with plans to demolish the William Penn building using a cooperative purchasing system that may let demolition start as early as this summer — they also voted not to extend the LERTA tax abatement program, planning further negotiations for better terms.  TheBurg
  • Gov. Josh Shapiro announced a $132.9M investment from Schreiber Foods to expand their Shippensburg facility, which will add 47 new jobs over the next three years while retaining 516 current positions in Cumberland County.  Central Penn Business Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • WellSpan Health is opening smaller-format hospitals in Newberry Township, Shrewsbury and Carlisle to reduce ambulance wait times and eliminate medical deserts in the Susquehanna Valley — the Newberry facility is open today while the others will start in a couple of weeks.  WGAL

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In February, the Greater Harrisburg Association of REALTORS reported that the regional housing market had more homes available & mixed price trends, with homes taking longer to sell and prices rising in some areas while falling in others, showing increased seller confidence ahead of spring.  Central Penn Business Journal
