COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Harrisburg YWCA restored power Friday after an overnight outage left the building without heat, and its crisis intervention services continued operating. CEO Mary Quinn said staff provided food, extra blankets, and support to residents while working on alternative accommodations + determining the outage cause.  Local 21 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Traffic nearly stopped on I-83 in Lower Paxton Township as a crash blocked lanes near Exit 48 at 6:30 a.m. Friday & emergency crews are at the scene.  WGAL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A $300 million deal between Dura-Bond and TC Energy created 250 new jobs in Steelton as Sen. McCormick and local officials celebrated the agreement on Friday + the pact followed efforts to secure electricity and rail access after a nearby steel mill closed.  WGAL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • High school seniors must apply online for the 2026 Best and Brightest award offered by PA Media Group by Friday, March 6. The award recognizes students for academics, extracurriculars and community service and is available for those attending eligible schools in nine local counties.  PennLive
  • Harrisburg University of Science & Technology launched its new HU Makerspace on Feb. 13 in the UPMC Health Sciences Tower on Chestnut Street. The space offers manufacturing tools for hands-on learning & invites students, staff & faculty to recycle PET bottles into 3D printer filament after safety training.  Harrisburg University of Science and Technology

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City and state leaders are starting a plan to improve downtown using the Downtown Harrisburg Perception Survey and a state grant ($50,000) to listen to residents, shop owners, and visitors. Officials say the effort will guide changes and boost local growth in the coming months.  Local 21 News

  • Twelve Susquehanna Valley football players from eight local high schools have been selected for the 69th annual Big 33 game. The game will kick off on Sunday, May 24 at Chapman Field at Cumberland Valley High School — a revered honor for our region's top talent.  WGAL
