COMMUNITY NEWS

  • USPS mail carriers are braving freezing temperatures in south-central Pennsylvania and asking residents to clear walkways so mail can be delivered safely. The cold has slowed routes as workers take extra care to stay safe.  FOX43
  • Law enforcement officers will gather at the GIANT Center on Jan. 31 for the 20th-anniversary Cops for K.O.P.S Benefit Hockey Game to raise funds for families of officers lost on duty. The event brings together officers from across the region (including returning family members) to honor their shared commitment.  FOX43

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Harrisburg youth will learn basic hand sewing and create a hand-made stuffie in a youth art class on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 9:00 a.m. — no prior experience is needed as all supplies are provided.  Central Penn Business Journal
  • Willie Slade Jr. has been unanimously approved as the new permanent superintendent of the Steelton-Highspire School District in Dauphin County, stepping up after serving as interim since September (he is a graduate and former principal). The district faces financial recovery requirements set by the Pennsylvania Department of Education from March.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A foot of snow and mixed precipitation is forecast for south central this weekend, with up to two inches per hour expected Sunday. State and federal agencies are coordinating calls (with PennDOT and the Turnpike Commission) to manage travel delays and advise residents to prepare.  FOX43
  • PennDOT announced nearly $53 million will be invested in 30 rail freight projects to boost mobility and support roughly 450 jobs across the state. The move builds on earlier infrastructure improvements and is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen local rail connections + economic growth.  WGAL
