COMMUNITY NEWS

  • rabbittransit will provide fixed-route service on Route 9 from Jan. 12 through Jan. 16 to help riders reach the Pennsylvania Farm Show at the Expo Center in Harrisburg. Seniors age 65 and older ride free with a Senior Free Fare ID card.  FOX43
  • The Pennsylvania Farm Show food court will run Jan. 10 to 17 at the Expo and Main halls on North Cameron Street in Harrisburg, offering a variety of Pennsylvania-grown foods (cash and credit accepted) while proceeds aid nonprofit agricultural groups.   • Friends of Wildwood hosts its annual photo contest at Wildwood Park, where the public may cast votes for People’s Choice Award winners until Saturday, Jan. 24 — featuring amateur photos from various Dauphin County parks. Winners will be announced in February.  TheBurg
  • Mechanicsburg junior Gabby Kirchner fuels the Hershey Bears' Teddy Bear Toss with her annual Gabby's Acts of Kindness. On Sunday, 81,796 stuffed animals hit the ice in Chocolatetown while her family drive now exceeds 125,000 teddy bears to benefit children and military families.  FOX43

EDUCATION NEWS

  • PA Act 44 will require schools to notify parents of any weapon found on school grounds (including buses and events) within 24 hours as the new law takes effect this new year, aiming to boost student safety while keeping student identities protected.  Local 21 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue collected $5B in December, beating projections by $238.5M. Year-to-date tax receipts, including personal income and corporation taxes, exceeded forecasts, setting a strong fiscal tone for the upcoming filing season.  Central Penn Business Journal
  • A new Pennsylvania law gives EMS real-time overdose tracking — so they can respond faster to opioid emergencies and save lives.  FOX43

  • Lindsay and Jim Pettus visited UPMC Harrisburg's NICU — where donor-funded cameras eased their fears — today to thank staff, including nurse Penny Sonnemann, after their baby Memphis, born nearly one pound three years ago, is now thriving.  FOX43
  • A new Pennsylvania law is set to help EMS teams respond faster to opioid overdoses by giving real-time tracking data. The law, in effect since the new year, will let paramedics see trends in substance use in the community.  FOX43

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A recent RentCafe study shows Harrisburg ranked No. 3 among small rental markets nationally with 77% lease renewals and 13 applicants per vacant unit—highlighting strong renter demand. The research indicates market competitiveness could boost occupancy trends going into next summer.  Central Penn Business Journal
