- ➤ Today, the city will light its Christmas tree at 7 p.m. at the City Government Center on North 2nd Street for its 2nd Annual Tree Lighting Event. On Saturday, a holiday parade featuring giant balloons, local marching bands and floats will start at 10 a.m. from Front and Market Streets + end back at the starting point. FOX43
- ➤ Community organizations across Central PA are offering free Thanksgiving meals and turkey dinners to help families in need. In Harrisburg, All You Can Inc served nearly 300 hot meals on November 20, and upcoming events on November 22 and November 27 in several counties will provide free dinners with varying requirements—RSVPs, side dishes, or donations. - ➤ Governor Shapiro and Lieutenant Governor Davis announced an $8M investment from US Durum Products to expand manufacturing operations in Harrisburg and create 64 jobs over the next three years. The company will move from Lancaster County to a historic facility at 523 South 17th Street — upgrading its equipment and training its workers with additional funds. Central Penn Business Journal
- ➤ Today, the Department of Energy approved a $1B loan to help Constellation Energy restart the old Three Mile Island nuclear plant along the Susquehanna River, which will produce 835 MW to power about 800,000 homes — pending final licensing from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. - ➤ HACCEA faculty at Harrisburg Area Community College voted with a 94% approval rate to ratify a tentative contract reached after over 20 hours of bargaining (the agreement still awaits administration approval). FOX43
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ PA Turnpike Commission forecasts nearly 3.4 million travelers will use the Turnpike during Thanksgiving, with a peak Tuesday and Wednesday before the holiday. The Commission has suspended all impacting construction (to ease traffic) and will resume projects (after the holiday) to aid safe travel. Local 21 News
- ➤ PennDOT advises drivers to ease off the gas, hold the wheel firmly, and steer gently if their car slides on icy roads. Fritzi Schreffler said drivers should not slam on brakes and must call 911 in a crash for help — extra caution is needed on ramps, bridges and overpasses. WGAL

- ➤ Penn State reviews found that Cancer Institute director Raymond Hohl repeatedly made mistakes in patient care, including missed treatment adjustments and recordkeeping errors that raised safety concerns+ University leaders kept him in his role while planning changes to improve patient care ahead of a National Cancer Institute designation. - ➤ Pediatricians in the Midstate report more cases of flu, colds, RSV and strep, and they advise parents to keep sick children home, ensure plenty of fluids are given, and seek care if signs of hard breathing occur. They also recommend flu vaccines and preventive antibody shots for babies at risk — steps meant to help avoid serious complications. ABC27
- ➤ Penn State researchers found that people over 50 in 15 central Pa counties have 57% higher melanoma rates, with a 14% rise for every 10% extra cultivated land and a 13% rise with increased herbicide use. The study does not prove that farming chemicals cause skin cancer—researchers say more work is needed to protect communities near farmland. PennLive
