COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Harrisburg will host its second annual tree lighting ceremony at the City Government Center on Friday, Nov. 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the tree lit at 7 p.m. and family activities, and a holiday parade with giant balloons, decorated floats, and live performances will follow downtown on Saturday, Nov. 22.  ABC27

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The U.S. Department of Energy gave a $1B loan to help Constellation Energy restart Three Mile Island Unit 1 as the Crane Clean Energy Center—this project will create up to 3,400 jobs and add power for about 800,000 homes across the region.  FOX43
  • US Durum Products LTD will relocate its facility from Lancaster County to 523 S. 17th St. in Harrisburg after Gov. Shapiro and Lt. Gov. Davis announced the move on November 19, with an $8 million project investment that will retain 39 jobs and add 25 new jobs while securing a $140,000 grant.  PennLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Susquehanna Art Museum is marking 10 years in its permanent home on N. 3rd Street by hosting a special exhibit called SAM Celebrates 10 Years: An Anniversary Exhibition that runs from December 3 through Feb 15—director Rachel Abell has gathered photos to show how the museum has grown.  TheBurg
  • Hershey Gardens will host its annual Christmas Tree Showcase starting November 21 with decorated trees and Santa visits (holiday crafts will also be available) to bring festive cheer to the community.  FOX43

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sara Lindemuth Elementary in Susquehanna Township School District is very crowded as teachers hold classes in hallways and even use a former closet for therapy (a sign of the tight space). The district bought 42 acres off Stanley Drive and will add temporary trailers for grades 4-6 over the next two to three years while urging the community to join monthly board meetings.  WGAL
  • Pennsylvania’s cyber charter schools are set to undergo new funding and accountability reforms—altering tuition formulas and adding wellness and residency checks—that will save school districts $178 million, education officials said. State Senator Dawn Keefer warned that these changes may force smaller schools serving low-income students to close as the budget also added $900 million for public schools.  FOX43

  • A federal order will cut passport services at Marysville-Rye Library in 14 days+removing 80% of Perry County’s passport appointments and $63,000 in annual fees. Library director Wendy Holler said the limited schedules at the library and Perry County Courthouse+have led them to seek help from Rep. John Joyce.  ABC27
  • During winter weather week, PennDOT advises drivers to fill their gas tank, top off windshield wiper fluid, and keep an emergency kit+ with snacks, water, a flashlight, and warm clothing to stay safe if stranded by harsh conditions.  WGAL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, WQXA-FM 105.7 THE X starts its 28-hour People’s Pay 4 Play broadcast at 6 a.m. to let listeners request a song and donate for Children’s Miracle Network that funds lifesaving care at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center; the fundraiser runs through Friday at 10 a.m. and has raised over $3.8 million in 18 years.  WGAL

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Latino Connection Foundation celebrated the groundbreaking of Woodward Lofts in Harrisburg’s Allison Hill neighborhood, marking the start of a $15.2 million project for 48 affordable, energy-efficient homes with wraparound services. Construction will begin immediately and is expected to finish in 2027 — creating over 100 local jobs and generating significant economic activity.  Central Penn Business Journal

  • Former Penn State football head coach James Franklin thanked the Penn State program on November 19 as he was introduced as Virginia Tech's head coach—he recalled his rare 12-year tenure in Happy Valley and stressed the need for honesty in his new role.  ABC27
