- ➤ American Legion Post 101 in Carlisle reopened after months of financial issues and reduced membership forced a summer closure. New commander Ronald Wilson vowed to restore the post—ensuring it remains a welcoming space for all veterans—and honor longtime member Vic Cole. ABC27
- ➤ Strong winds this week damaged Harrisburg's A Miracle Community, destroying eight tents and causing $2,500 in damage—volunteers are rebuilding platforms and the nonprofit is asking for donations while cleanup continues; no one was hurt. ABC27
- ➤ York County's annual 717 Vintage Fest returns this weekend, giving residents a chance to shop locally, shop sustainable, and support small businesses. FOX43
- ➤ Central Pa nonprofits are invited to boost their storytelling through a new program called Stories That Serve by The Foundation for Enhancing Communities and Wakeen and Company, which offers one nonprofit a custom professional video package for outreach and donor engagement. - ➤ Two Mechanicsburg nonprofits Holden’s Light and The Nest of Pennsylvania are helping families face food insecurity because of the federal shutdown and SNAP suspension. They give out resource boxes with food and baby supplies today at Hampden Township Police Department from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and they will host a free Fill the Nest event on November 11 at 3 p.m. Central Penn Business Journal

- ➤ Harrisburg University graduate student Abdur Rehman ‘26 was named a 2025 Global Accreditation Center Scholar by the Project Management Institute on November 7 — a prestigious honor given to top project management students. - ➤ The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced the South Bridge inspection will run Monday, Nov. 10 through Friday, Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.—lane and shoulder restrictions on the John Harris Memorial South Bridge along I-83 will slow traffic between Dauphin and Cumberland counties. - ➤ The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said the 19th Street bridge over Interstate 83 will be demolished overnight from Saturday, Nov. 15 to Sunday, Nov. 16 with preparation starting Sunday, Nov. 9 (from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.) that may bring lane restrictions and traffic delays between the 13th Street and Paxton Street interchanges. - ➤ Low-income households in Pennsylvania are protected from utility shutoffs during November even as LIHEAP aid is delayed to Dec 3 because of a government shutdown. The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and state officials have secured promises from electric and gas utilities to avoid disconnections until the winter moratorium begins on Dec 1. PennLive
- ➤ Harrisburg Councilman Ralph Rodriguez is launching a free meal service for families hit by the SNAP freeze as the program will serve dinners on the first Friday of each month at the Public Works Building on Paxton Street (recipients must show a SNAP or Access card and a valid Pennsylvania ID to get meals prepared by two local restaurants).
