- ➤ Donegal High School senior basketball player Joey Williams died in a single-car crash—on the 1800 block of Landis Road in East Donegal Township around 2 a.m. Sunday morning. PennLive
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Lt. David Godfrey, a 24-year veteran with the York County Sheriff's Office, made a public appearance at a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for the K9 unit on Oct. 5 after he was injured in an ambush in North Codorus Township—that attack killed three officers. WGAL
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At Central Penn College, a forum on school board elections was held Sunday ahead of the Nov. 4 vote — local officials stressed the need for community input in school policies. FOX43
- ➤ On Monday, Pennsylvania lawmakers, educators, and workforce experts held a joint public hearing to discuss how AI is used in classrooms – they stressed that AI should enhance students’ critical thinking and writing skills while protecting privacy and ensuring access across all communities. Lawmakers said they will continue developing programs that prepare students for a future where learning happens with both humans and machines. FOX43

- ➤ The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has placed 25 counties under a drought watch due to a dry summer and low rainfall—DEP Secretary Jessica Shirley urged residents to conserve water to avoid future restrictions. WGAL
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The county-owned bridge on Bridge Road in East Pennsboro Twp. will close on Oct. 27 for repairs that will fix the deck, piers and beams—it will reopen on Nov. 24 and drivers must use a detour via Country Club Road, Routes 11/15 and local streets. PennLive
- ➤ Today, Pennsylvania announced that four agencies will create 1,200 new truck parking spaces at 133 locations by the end of 2026 to give truck drivers safe places to rest. Officials said the spaces will be set up at areas like Interstate ramps and weigh stations to help drivers meet federal rest requirements. PennLive
- ➤ Attorney General Dave Sunday announced on Monday that his office will pilot a program that lets officers in Cumberland and Perry counties refer minor offenders with mental illness to treatment services. The program—an expansion of the Law Enforcement Treatment Initiative—will begin referrals immediately and will divert offenders from jail—aiming to cut repeat crimes. WITF

- ➤ The American Red Cross is using Fire Prevention Week to remind local families to test their smoke alarms and practice escape plans as more than 250 home fires have been reported so far in 2025 — stressing that every second counts during fire emergencies. - ➤ A federal judge is set to review settlements that may deliver $28.5M to about 12,000 healthcare workers from Geisinger and a former hospital near Lewisburg if approved; each worker is guaranteed at least $250 with an average payment of around $1,500.
