COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Many communities in the Susquehanna Valley will hold Halloween trick-or-treat events on Oct. 30 or Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. with a few towns showing slight differences such as Hummelstown hosting until 9 p.m. and Bloomfield Borough ending at 7:30 p.m. WGAL
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Adams County’s biggest event, the Apple Harvest Festival, returned this past weekend for its 61st year and brought up to 15,000 visitors per day (depending on the weather). County chairs Nick and Nicole Zepp said the four-day festival has grown to become the top economic draw in the area. ABC27
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Marc Stier from the Pennsylvania Policy Center gave the keynote at the 10th District forum on Sunday at Central Penn College (a nonpartisan event) where he explained that state funding for schools dropped from over 50% in the 1970s to about 32% and that local districts now rely on varied local resources, leaving poorer schools at a disadvantage. He showed charts comparing funding gaps between wealthy and low-income districts and warned that these disparities risk worsening educational inequities. PennLive

- ➤ Officials in Dauphin County reported on October 5th that the missing state budget is already impacting local schools and county services—there are fears that funding cuts will soon affect essential programs for residents. Local 21 News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Diane Crosby's family organized a Penn State watch party in Dauphin County to honor her legacy and raise funds for the Seena Magowitz Foundation—supporting pancreatic cancer research and families after she died in December 2024.
