ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A crash occurred around 12:15 p.m. Thursday near Exit 72 in Lower Paxton Township that blocked I-81's southbound lanes and backed traffic up for several miles — northbound lanes also experienced delays and it is unclear if anyone was injured. WGAL
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ North Middleton Township police said they were called to Creek View Park around 8 a.m. when they found the restroom wall spray-painted and new picnic tables damaged by a knife or saw-type instrument—officials said the incident occurred between Wednesday and Thursday morning. WGAL
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Shapiro said his administration has helped over 300 steelworkers in Steelton who lost their jobs when the plant closed on June 30, and workers received guidance on unemployment, career counseling, and health insurance options—union leaders added that a buyer is being sought to lessen the plant’s downtime. The state’s Labor & Industry officials held Rapid Response Information Meetings to support workers built by years of community service at the historic mill. ABC27
- ➤ Pennsylvania State Police announced increased enforcement for the Fourth of July weekend to reduce crashes and injuries on busy roads. Troopers will target speeding, aggressive driving, or suspected impaired driving while the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission offers $20 Uber vouchers for the Sober Ride Home program from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. from July 3 through July 5—encouraging safe travel practices in Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties. - ➤ The House returned a spending plan with an 18% cut to Medicaid funding that critics say may force hospitals to reduce services or close. Hospital leaders warned that rural facilities already facing losses might suffer more—rising costs and staff shortages could worsen the problem— if the cuts become law. WITF
- ➤ The Senate passed a 940-page budget bill that includes $4.5 trillion in tax cuts and $350 billion for border security while critics warn it may cut help such as Medicaid and SNAP. The state’s Department of Human Services said the work rule could force over 300,000 people off Medicaid and cost more than $25 million to build a new tracking system — officials warned that those costs would fall on Pennsylvania.
