COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Over the weekend, volunteers worked at Newside Cemetery in Lower Paxton Township using ground-penetrating radar to locate 23 misplaced graves of early Dauphin County settlers—including some Revolutionary War veterans—and they believe there may be nearly 48 in total. A rededication ceremony to honor these graves is planned later this year, and all the work is being done without township funds. WGAL
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Lower Paxton police said that over the weekend a newly built home on 100 Wolf Circle was set on fire, flooded, and vandalized with swastikas and sexual images — officers reported that a small wood fire in the garage and intentional use of faucets caused 1 to 2 inches of water damage while they investigate possible antisemitic motives. - ➤ On May 26 at 3 p.m., police say 22-year-old Angelo Ceccarani fatally beat homeless glass artist Josh Schneider with a brick and cinder block behind St. Stephen’s Episcopal Cathedral on Front Street during ArtsFest when crowds were nearby — Ceccarani has been charged with murder and denied bail. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, hundreds of steelworkers are looking for new jobs as the Cleveland Cliffs Steel Plant goes idle, and members of Keep Steel in Steelton will head to the State Capitol at 10 a.m. at the Capitol Media Center to highlight the plant’s impact on workers and local businesses — the plant is one of the country’s longest-running mills and one of only three rail producers in the Americas. - ➤ New government data shows that ICE held 353 people at Pennsylvania detention centers on May 31 (the highest count since September 2009) while New Jersey saw a 451% surge in detentions since the end of April. Pennsylvania’s numbers have risen each month since December and first passed 300 in March since 2011. PennLive

- ➤ Former NICU patients and their families gathered on Sunday at Leg Up Farms in York to mark the 40th anniversary of York Hospital’s NICU—doctors and staff met with former patients in a reunion that honored a department which has cared for more than 10,000 babies. WGAL
