  • On Thursday, state police said Upper Dauphin teacher Taryn Morgan was found dead in a Jefferson Township home while her husband was at Hershey Medical Center after a self-inflicted gunshot; community members mourn her loss as Upper Dauphin FFA & Ag plan a plant sale for her children.  FOX43
  • Today, the Hampden Township Veterans Recognition Committee will honor soldiers who never came home at a Memorial Day service, with a keynote by the widow of Maj. Gen. Harold Greene and tribute to Capt. Williams Hendricks; local groups (a brass quintet and tenor Chris Earhart) will perform.  PennLive
  • Today, attend a 3 p.m. patriotic concert at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hanover as part of Memorial Day celebrations in South-Central Pennsylvania.   • Vedika Burman (12) from Central Dauphin Middle School will represent the local region at the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. next week; preliminary rounds begin Tuesday while finals are set for May 28 and the event is available for viewing on ION.  WGAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • More than 2 million travelers are expected on the Pennsylvania Turnpike over Memorial Day weekend as PennDOT advises checking tire pressure and fluids before travel, with no active construction from Friday to Monday. Drivers follow Paul Miller's Law (a phone in hand leads to a $50 fine) to stay safe.  WGAL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Whole Foods customers are advised to return 24-ounce cups of Kitchen Minestrone Soup after a recalled product was found to contain undeclared shrimp that may trigger severe allergic reactions; the soup, sold nationwide and in Harrisburg, expires May 27.  PennLive
  • Beating the Odds Recovery and Veteran Services opened a drop-in recovery support center at 651 Market St. in Lemoyne, offering support groups, clothing and a grocery pantry while running daily from noon to 8 p.m. (a PTSD support group meets Monday evenings).  PennLive
