COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Harrisburg Mayor Wanda Williams and officials cut the ribbon for a renovated Gorgas Park in Uptown, where students enjoyed a picnic and play. The milestone is part of a multimillion-dollar project that upgraded several parks (Reservoir Park renovations still need funds) and will host summer camps soon.  TheBurg
  • Camp Hill students helped create a new mural along Route 11 and the project nears completion, with final touches planned next week (the mural replaces a design from 2012). Lebanon-based artist Katie Trainer will be a featured artist at Harrisburg’s Arts Fest this weekend.  WGAL
  • Cyclists rode silently to the state Capitol on May 20 as part of the Ride of Silence (a memorial honoring cyclists killed or injured on Pa. roads). The event recognized 28 riders (all from 2025) who lost their lives.  FOX43
  • Yesterday, the Ride of Silence honored cyclists injured or killed last year as riders gathered at 6:30 p.m. from two centers and rode 2.5 miles to the Capitol, where 28 ghost bikes and one red bike represented victims. Organizers postponed founder Ross Willard’s tribute until his memorial service in June.  TheBurg

  • Advanced Cooling Technologies is planning a 50,000 sqft facility in Lancaster to manufacture cold plates for liquid cooling data centers, with initial production expected to exceed 500,000 plates annually as demand grows from AI and high-performance computing.  Central Penn Business Journal

  • After her husband, co-owner Lee Zimmerman, died in December, Donna Zimmerman has kept the century-old candy shop in Penbrook open by adjusting summer hours and continuing the traditional recipes. Loyal customers still visit to honor the family legacy.  PennLive

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Three Central Pa. companies will receive $1.67M in Manufacturing PA Training-to-Career grants to boost local workforce skills. Tooling Dynamics, New Concept Technology, and JATC of Shamokin Electricians IBEW 607 in York and Northumberland counties will use the funds to support apprenticeship programs.  Central Penn Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sen. McCormick launched the America250 Pennsylvania Youth Essay Contest to encourage high school students to share their views on America’s 250th anniversary. Students must submit 600-800 word essays on themes about a notable Pennsylvanian or a challenge for the next generation, with entries due by 11:59 p.m. (July 4).  Local 21 News

  • Pennsylvania utility regulators warned consumers that rising electricity generation prices will raise bills starting June 1; officials advised households to monitor usage and contact utility companies for budget billing options.  Local 21 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed three measles cases in Susquehanna Valley this week — one in Lancaster County and two in Lebanon County, where the highest case numbers were reported statewide — and planned vaccine clinics in Lancaster, Lebanon and Perry counties after administering over 600 MMR doses statewide so far.  WGAL
  • Mia Ray ’23, a HU graduate and current Human Research Technologist at Penn State College of Medicine, works on community-engaged projects in environmental health—testing air quality in Steelton to understand exposure risks. She also serves on the Environmental Justice Advisory Board and leads a program mentoring local students in research.  Harrisburg University of Science and Technology
  • Penn State Health announced a new division, Psychiatry & Behavioral Health, to combine inpatient and outpatient services across the region. The move will expand access with 53 beds opening July 13 at Holy Spirit Medical Center and Harrisburg clinics relocating on Aug 10 & Sept 8.  Central Penn Business Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Pennsylvania and Maryland's best high school baseball players will face off in the Big 26 Baseball Classic from July 30 through Aug. 2 at FNB Field in Harrisburg. Players selected from statewide tryouts (26 made the Pennsylvania team) will also join a Buddy Program game with special needs athletes.  TheBurg
