CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Kevin Yiengst, a 59-year-old mayoral candidate from Palmyra, was charged with DUI after he crashed his white HMC Sierra pickup truck into a home at Railroad and Willow streets around 8 p.m. on Thursday—police said he claimed a cat caused him to swerve and that he would soon be mayor. PennLive
- ➤ Four news organizations asked for access to three sealed records in the trial of Veronika Rodriguez, charged with making a false report after she said she was raped, but Judge Charles Jones denied the request—ordering the records be unsealed only after the trial concludes as media groups prepare an emergency appeal. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Pennsylvania will begin enforcing a law on June 5 that bans drivers from holding a cellphone or other handheld device on highways or at red lights—hands-free use via Bluetooth is allowed. The law, named for Paul Miller who was killed in 2010, will start with a 12‑month period of written warnings before fines and penalties are imposed next year. WITF
- ➤ Pennsylvania voters can vote today from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and if in line by closing they may cast a ballot—even when using a provisional ballot at first-time polling places—while state laws protect them from intimidation and ensure accessible voting and assistance for those in need. Spotlight PA
- ➤ Officials said nearly 2.2 million drivers will use the Pennsylvania Turnpike over Memorial Day weekend, with 715,000 expected on May 23, 530,000 on May 24, 470,000 on May 25, and 475,000 on May 26. Maintenance work will be paused from 3 p.m. on May 23 until 11 p.m. on May 26—state police and Turnpike personnel will boost patrols to keep lanes open for travelers. FOX43

- ➤ Hamilton Health Center in Steelton will open a new pharmacy early this summer that offers drive-thru service, prescription fills, immunizations plus one-on-one pharmacist consultations. The new pharmacy, created after Rite Aid closed last May, is part of Hamilton Health’s plan to improve healthcare access in the area. PennLive
