GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ More than 100,000 checks totaling nearly $23 million are being mailed to Pennsylvania residents as the first round of Money Match checks in 2026, the state treasury said. State Treasurer Stacy Garrity urged residents to cash their checks when they arrive. WGAL
- ➤ PennDOT installed warning signs on I-81 to keep tractor-trailers off Front Street because the route poses a risk to a low-clearance Amtrak bridge near UPMC. Rep. Nate Davidson requested the signs to ease truck congestion in downtown and improve safety for local residents. WGAL
- ➤ State Sen. Gene Yaw proposed new legislation making smoking in vehicles with children 12 or younger a ticketable offense in Pennsylvania; the measure would apply to all smoking devices & follows CDC findings linking secondhand smoke to asthma, infections and sudden infant death syndrome. WGAL
- ➤ In Dauphin County, conflicting reports say TMI Unit One will begin partial grid delivery in the second half of 2027 (with full connection expected later) while PJM Interconnection predicts complete grid deliverability in 2031. WGAL
- ➤ PennDOT will repair pavement on Route 11/15 from Market Street to Haldeman Street in Wormleysburg next week on Wednesday, April 1 and Thursday, April 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.—the road will be reduced to one lane, so drivers must use caution. FOX43
