PA Driver’s License History…Did you Know? Pennsylvania issued its first official state driver’s licenses in 1923 . However, the state’s very first driver’s license law was enacted earlier in 1909 , which originally required drivers to be at least 18 years old. Pennsylvania began issuing PHOTO driver’s licenses in 1980 . Before this transition, licenses were simply paper documents. Since then, the state has periodically updated the designs and security features of its photo ID cards, rolling out a major redesign in late 2022 that features laser-perforated keystone symbols, larger primary photos, and “ghost” photos to prevent counterfeiting.

Come and learn more about Pennsylvania’s driving history with a tour after the breakfast.
